Finding solutions can be hugely satisfying in any job but in the business analyst job, you are by definition a problem solver, so it’s very easy to become “problem-centric”.
Sometimes our job can just become one problem after another. We’ve got to be careful not to get depressed by all the challenges we face!
So rather than just asking analysts what problems they have, what issues they need to tackle, we’ve also been asking them what problems give them the most satisfaction in solving.
Here are 12 positives to the business analyst job based on some recent surveys run by IRM. The list below is what business analysts said when we asked…
Which sort of problems give you the most satisfaction in solving?
- Working out why something is failing then working through it to a solution
- Delivering positive business benefit to clients
- Finding a simple solution to a complex problem
- The more difficult the problem, the more satisfaction in solving it
- Those that help people achieve more
- Help the organisation grow
- Making people’s job’s easier, simplifying their work
- Challenging – think outside the square
- Analysing to find the root cause
- Working as a team to come up with a solution
- Problems that initially present themselves as difficult or challenging
- Solving problems based on intuition
As you can see, there are lots of positives to the role, even if it can be hard to see past the next problem to solve. This can be part of what makes the job so enthralling.
